Zardari invites Manmohan to bolster bilateral ties |
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday
formally invited Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan to boost
bilateral ties between the two neighbours, and also make a trip to his ancestral
village in Punjab province on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti in November.
In a letter to Dr. Singh sent through the Pakistani High Commission here, Zardari
said the visit would provide both countries an opportunity to take stock of their
bilateral relations. Dr. Singh, had, in past accepted in principle the invitation
to visit Pakistan , but made it clear that he would do so only if there was some
tangible outcome. Zardari recalled his meeting with Dr. Singh during his private
visit to Ajmer in April and expressed satisfaction over the progress in the bilateral
dialogue process that resumed last year. India and Pakistan resumed their peace
process early last year after a gap of over two years in the wake of the 2008
Mumbai terror attacks. The Foreign Ministers of the two countries are scheduled
to meet in Islamabad on September 7 to review the latest round of talks.
