India to open first pension scheme overseas centre for expats in Dubai | The Indian Government has planned to open a center in Dubai
to enroll thousands of expatriate workers in its new pension scheme. The voluntary
scheme, named Pension and Life Insurance Fund (PLIF), will help the skilled and
unskilled Indian workers to save money for their old age, to have financial means
when they go back home and a life insurance cover for Rs 100,000 during their
work abroad. About 65 percent of over two million Indians in the UAE are blue
collar workers and they will get an early opportunity to enroll in the scheme,
The Gulf News reports. The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), which introduced
the scheme, said that the enrolment center to be opened in the UAE would be the
first overseas center for the purpose. The Indian Embassy is considering Dubai
to set up the enrolment center for the scheme because of the presence of large
number of Indian workers in the city and northern emirates.
