Veteran freedom-fighter Capt Lakshmi Sehgal critical |
Veteran freedom-fighter Captain Lakshmi
Sehgal, who worked with Subhash Chandra Bose during the freedom struggle, was
admitted to a local hospital here on Thursday, following a cardiac arrest. Sehgal's
daughter Subhashini Ali said that her 97-year-old mother suffered a heart attack on Thursday
morning. “Doctors are trying their best. She suffered heart attack in the
morning. She is 97-year-old. She has also suffered a brain haemorrhage. She is
still breathing and is conscious but her condition is not good,” Ali said. Sehgal
was head of the women's regiment of the Indian National Army (INA) set up by Bose in 1943
to secure India's independence from the British empire. She unsuccessfully contested
the 2002 presidential poll against former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam.
