Laila Khan was murdered by stepfather: Mumbai police

Bollywood starlet Laila Khan's stepfather Parvez Tak has confessed to killing her and her siblings, Mumbai Police claimed here on Wednesday. Tak reportedly told police that he killed Laila's mother, Celina, in a fit of rage and then killed the others as they had witnessed the murder. Interacting with mediapersons here, Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Himanshu Roy, said that six bodies-five female and one male, presumably that of Laila's brother, Imran, - had been recovered from a pit at Laila’s Igatpuri farmhouse. Three bodies were placed at the bottom of the pit, covered first with mattresses and pillows and then with stone, followed by three more bodies buried in the similar fashion. The pit was finally covered with mud, Roy explained. There is very little clothing left on the skeletal remains, the police informed, and evidently, the victims were murdered and buried with even jewellery on their bodies. The bodies, Roy said, will be matched against DNA samples from Laila's biological father, Nadir Patel. The identities of the bodies found would be confirmed by a forensic report, Roy added. Tak, who was Celina's third husband, reportedly told police that he was insecure about her close relationship with her second husband, Asif Sheikh. He was also upset about the family's plans to shift to Dubai. Tak, Roy claimed, murdered Celina at the farmhouse when they got into an argument over her praising Sheikh. Celina had reportedly also transferred power of attorney for disposal of her assets to Sheikh, a builder, who had access to her other properties, including her Oshiwara flat. The family reportedly had a barbecue on the night of the murders. They played music and danced. It was when Tak and Celina had retired for the night to their first floor room that the two entered into an altercation. The couple came down to the ground floor of the house, where Tak hit Celina with a blunt object on the head, killing her. By this time, the police claim, the others had gathered, and there was a scuffle. Tak reportedly called in watchman Shakir Hussain, who belongs to Kishtwar as Tak does, and whom he had appointed only a few months ago. The police say the deep fractures on the male skeleton suggested that Imran, 25, was neutralized first. Tak and Hussain then made their way back to Jammu, police said. Tak was arrested a few weeks ago in Jammu in connection with another case, and then taken to Mumbai by the city police.
