UK bans Indian Mujahideen | The UK Government has proscribed the international terrorist organisation, Indian Mujahideen (IM). This was approved by Parliament on 5 July. British High Commissioner to India Sir James Bevan said: “This measure reflects our commitment to continue working with India to counter the threat of terrorism that both our countries face.” This legal amendment makes membership or support for the Indian Mujahideen
a criminal offence. It will help ensure the UK remains a hostile environment for
terrorists and their supporters. The UK Government is determined to do all it
can to minimise the threat from terrorism to the UK and its interests abroad.
Proscription of terrorist organisations is an important part of the Government’s
strategy to tackle terror activities.
