Scientology cult tore up tree to make pen for Tom Cruise

Scientology chiefs tore down a giant eucalyptus tree to make Tom Cruise a pen, among other lavish gifts for the actor. They ripped it up from their California HQ to make presents for their golden boy and used parts of it on the interior of a customised 4X4 for him. Other extravagant treats given to the 50-year-old Mission Impossible star include an aircraft hangar with a plush office and several personalised nickel-plated motorbikes. He has also been given a luxury coach called Silver Screen. The actor demanded that it was fitted with a drawer to keep slippers in so people don’t walk on the carpet with dirty shoes. The details emerged after Marty Rathbun, a former high-ranking Scientologist who left the church in 2004, leaked a memo from 2005, the Sun reported. It also revealed how Tom insisted his Scientology leader and best friend David Miscavige, 52 — who he calls Chairman of the Board or COB — sampled the coach first. The memo states: “He (Cruise) requested that a space be figured out for placement of slippers in the front of Silver Screen as he doesn’t want shoes on the carpet. “This is figured out — there is a drawer at the entrance which can be used for this. “He also stated that no one will be allowed to enter other than his personal assistants. Mr Cruise also said that when Silver Screen arrives he isn’t going to set foot in it unless COB has been in first.” Former Scientologist John Brousseau has told how he was paid just £30 a week to work on the gifts and customise Cruise’s favourite Ford Excursion and motorbikes while a member of the controversial church. Tom’s actress wife Katie Holmes, 33, dumped him and filed for divorce in New York ten days ago because she didn’t want their six-year-old daughter Suri brought up surrounded by the religion.
