Enforcement Directorate to begin questioning Jagan Reddy | The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will begin today questioning YSR Congress
Party leader YS Jaganmohan
Reddy in connection with the disproportionate assets case. The court, which had
on July 2 reserved its orders on the ED plea, permitted the central agency to
question Jagan from July 7 to July 21. The ED officials will grill Jagan in the
presence of his lawyer every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Andhra Pradesh High
Court had earlier rejected Jagan's plea for bail in connection with disproportionate
assets case. The high court said that it agreed with the Central Bureau of Investigation
(CBI and a CBI court's contention that Reddy was not eligible for bail in connection
with the case. Earlier this week, Jagan's mother Vijayamma had met the CVC and
the Prime Minister in her efforts to defend her son. In a letter submitted to
the Prime Minster, Vijayamma alleged harassment of Jagan by the CBI. The letter
also accused CBI Joint Director Lakshminarayana of "having an ulterior motive
behind the YSR chief's arrest. "The functioning of the CBI and its Joint Director
Lakshminarayana is giving room for doubt over the very intention of the premier
investigating agency in handling the case," the letter stated. Jagan was arrested
by the CBI on May 27. The High Court on July 4 dismissed his bail petition.
