India’s Olympic qualifiers confident ahead of London Games | Indian Olympic qualifiers have expressed optimism about bringing glory to the nation at
the London Olympics,
to be held later this month. Shuttler Valiyaveetil Diju, tennis player Rushmi
Chakraborty, boxer Jai Bhagwan and badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa were felicitated
at a function here on Wednesday, and were given warm send off ahead of the sporting
extravaganza. Speaking at the function, tennis player Rushmi Chakraborty said
the Indian contingent will return with number of medals and make the country proud.
“Olympics are a big sporting event and I think India has got a fairly big contingent
going, so we all hope for best wishes from everybody from the nation. Support
us and pray for us, so that we can come back with many medals for the country,”
Chakraborty said. Pugilist Jai Bhagwan echoed similar sentiments when he said,
“We have left no stone unturned in our preparations and as the hopes of the whole
country are upon us, we are doing our best training. We just need the country's
love and wishes to win gold medal in Olympics.” Badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa
too sounded optimistic ahead of the mega event. “I am looking forward to doing
really well, and Jwala (Gutta) and I are working really hard. We hope that we
come back with a medal,” Ponnappa said. A fortnight-long summer Olympics will
be held in London from July 27 to August 12.
