Delhi Police's Special Cell gets Jundal's custody for 15 days | A Delhi court on Thursday granted the Special Cell of the city police 15 days
custody
of 26/11 handler Syed Zabiuddin alias Abu Jundal. Senior public prosecutor Ahmed
Khan had earlier produced the National Investigating Agency (NIA) request that
Jundal should be handed over to them to avoid any incident similar to the 26/11
Mumbai terror attacks. "We didn't get his custody, whatever investigation Delhi
Police does, will be helpful to us too," said Ahmed Khan. The court had earlier
reserved its order for 15 minutes after the Maharashtra ATS and the Mumbai Police
Crime Branch had also asked for Jundal's custody. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram
had earlier said Abu Jundal had a very safe haven in Pakistan and added that India
believes that the control room could not have been established without state support.
He said Pakistan should admit that he did go there and that he was present in
the control room, and that he had a role to play in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Chidambaram said LeT founder Hafiz Saeed was in the control room in Karachi ,
Pakistan with Jundal during 26/11 Mumbai carnage. Delhi Police arrested Abu Jundal
on his arrival from Saudi Arabia at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport
on June 21. According to reports, Jundal has admitted his active role in the 26/11
attack, saying he had worked in tandem with terror mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
He has during his interrogation confessed his role in the country's worst terror
attack and admitted that he was present in the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) control room
in Karachi from where direction was being to the 10 terrorists who carried out
the strike in Mumbai.
