CBI files chargeheet in Adarsh scam | The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed its chargeheet in the Adarsh society scam.
The CBI had earlier assured the Bombay High Court that it would file a chargesheet
in the case before July 4 as the agency had to take prior sanction from the government
to prosecute the bureaucrats. The CBI has registered a case on January 29 last
year against former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and 13 others. Two
former Maharashtra chief ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vilasrao Deshmukh are
being questioned by the judicial panel in connection with the scam along with
Ashok Chavan. The Enforcement Directorate is conducting a preliminary enquiry
against Chavan and 13 others for alleged money laundering in case. The Adarsh
Society was originally meant to be a six-storey housing facility for Kargil war
heroes and war widows. It was, however, converted into a 100-metre-tall building
and apartments in it were allocated to serving bureaucrats, senior army commanders
and relatives of senior politicians.
