Prime Minister Dr. Mnmohan Singh has reportedly accepted the resignation of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar as the head of the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on telecom. Pawar, accused of his alleged role in the allocation of 2G- spectrum, refuted the charges, calling them “false” and “ill-motivated.” Pawar had, on Monday, written to the PM, expressing his desire to quit as the head of the telecom EGoM, a post he had recently acquired from Pranab Mukherjee. Mukherjee had resigned as the head of the telecom EGoM to contest the Presidential election. A crucial meeting of the reconstituted EGoM to discuss spectrum pricing, scheduled for today, has now been postponed.
