Funeral of slain Jharkhand cop performed with full state honours | Scores of locals and admirers of late Francis Induwar,
an Inspector of Jharkhand Police special branch, gathered in Ranchi city on Wednesday to pay their last respects to the intelligence officer killed by the Maoists.
Induwar was buried with full state honours. Earlier, the state police found the
decapitated body of the police inspector at Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand
on Tuesday (October 06). The body of Francis Induwar was found near Ranchi, the
capital city of Maoist infested Jharkhand state. The Maoists had kidnapped inspector
Francis Induwar on September 30, from Khunti district of the state, to demand
the release of their three top leaders, Kobad Ghandy, Chhatradhar Mahato and Chandra
Bhushan Yadav. A poster was also discovered pasted on a tree nearby stating that
the body was that of the police officer. Induwar's death has agitated other policemen
who staged a protest, saying that they cannot work at the cost of their lives.
Consequently, a top police brass admitted that the junior level policemen are
demanding security in interior regions. "They are not demanding these. They are...
they have expressed that our people in the interiors are insecure and security
should be provided to them. We also agree to this proposal," said B B Pradhan,
Inspector General o Police, Special Branch, Jharkhand Police, Ranchi. Mourners
with placards condemning the killing of Induwar. greeted the celebrities including
parliamentarians who visited the leaders of political parties said that Maoists
are indulging in barbaric acts in the name of serving the poor. "It is a matter
of great grief for the state. We want to convey to those people who indulge in
such barbaric killings in the name of serving the poor that their way of fighting
is not right. We are also revolutionary but their way to reach the objective is
absolutely wrong," said Prabhakar Tirkey, Secretary, Jharkhand Party. India is
battling Maoists across eastern, central and southern India, an insurgency that
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described as the biggest internal security
challenge since independence. |
