Yeddyurappa backs Jagdish Shettar for CM’s post | Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday has
once again raised the bogey against the current state chief DV Sadananda Gowda,
demanding that Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Jagdish Shettar
replace Gowda by early next month. Interacting with reporters here, BJP legislator
B. P. Harish said, “For the sake of the BJP in Karnataka, it is essential to change
the leadership. Jagadish Shettar is the best candidate for the chief minister.
I came to know through media, our state minister Jarkiholi told that Pradhan is
coming on 30th (June) to Bangaluru.” He added that the change of guard might take
place as early as 1st or 2nd of next month. “I think 1st or 2nd (July) next month,”
Harish said, when asked about the probable timing of the change in leadership.
Earlier, the BJP core group met at party president Nitin Gadkari’s residence in
New Delhi to discuss the Karnataka crisis. Yeddyurappa, who led BJP to victory
in Karnataka in 2008, was compelled to quit as state chief in July 2011 after
the Lokayukta report indicted him for illegal mining and for his alleged role
in irregularities of allotment of land.
