Americans' confidence in nation's banks hits record low: Poll | Americans' confidence in U.S. banks has dipped to a record low, according to a new poll. According to the Gallup Poll, only 21 percent Americans claimed to have 'great
deal' or 'quite a lot of confidence' in American banks. According to Politico,
this is a one-percentage point lower than 22 percent in 2009. For the fourth year
in a row, more Americans have said they have 'little' or 'no confidence' in the
country's banks. According to Gallup , just two other U.S. institutions get lower
marks from Americans than banks: Congress, in which 13 percent of the people have
confidence; and health maintenance organizations, with 19 percent people feeling
the same. The miserable ratings come five days after Moody's downgraded the credit
ratings of more than a dozen global banks, including five of the six largest U.S.
banks. Last month, J.P. Morgan came under fire after it revealed that it had lost
at least two billion dollars in a trading blunder.
