Top Oz newspaper editors resign following drastic business model changes |
The editors-in-chief of two top Australian papers, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, have reportedly resigned. The publisher and editor-in-chief , Peter Fray,
and first female editor, Amanda Wilson, of The Sydney Morning Herald announced
they are leaving the company. The Age's editor-in-chief, Paul Ramadge, is also
stepping down. Australian publisher Fairfax Media Ltd owns both the newspapers.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the announcements came after last week's
revelation that Fairfax is to shed 1900 jobs. Fairfax reporters took to Twitter
to express their sadness about the loss of the two editors. According to some
recent media reports, Fairfax Media has planned to slash 1900 jobs over the next
three years to shrink its broadsheets into 'compact' tabloid formats. It has also
planned closing two of its printing facilities, changing the format of The Sydney
Morning Herald and The Age newspaper, and introducing digital subscriptions.
