World Snooker Championship2009 logo
was unveiled here on Monday. Reigning snooker world champion Pankaj Advani and
veteran Geet Sethi graced the occasion. Talking to reporters, Sethi said the event
would go a long way to show that India could hold competitions of this stature.
"I think this is going to be an event which is going to be a path-breaking event.
It is going to be a point in history where suddenly you find that snooker is going
to the masses," said Geet Sethi. Advani said that the event would play a crucial
role in making snooker popular. "It will definitely give a boost to the sport
because it is going to be held at such a grand scale and in such a stylish way
that every one will start wondering about this game," he added. The tournament
will see top players like Saurav Kothari, Rupesh Shah, Yasin Merchant, Manan Chandra,
Devendra Joshi and Aditya Mehta in action. Two-time quarterfinalist Vidya Pillai
and Anuja Chandra will represent India 's women's challenge in the event. Advani
and Sethi will be among the 200 cueists vying for the top honours at the World
Snooker Championship to be held from November 14 to 29 in Hyderabad. |
