Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist formed in Nepal

The dissident faction of Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists (UCPN-M) led by Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya formally announced formation of a new party, "Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist," in Nepal on Tuesday. Speaking at the press meeting, Baidya said that the faction was compelled to form a new party as the UCPN-M Chairman Prachanda and Vice-Chairman and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai deviated from the party line. He accused the former party leaders of destroying the achievement of the decade long "Peoples War". He said that the dissident faction decided to split as they thought it's not fit to be associated with the mother party which is filled with opportunists. He also criticized the move of disarming the UCPN-M's People Liberation Army, terming the move as going against the party line. On the occasion, Baidya said that his new party would move towards preserving the gains such as Republic, Federalism and Secularism that has been achieved so far. Baidya also urged the revolutionary forces from the party establishment to join the newly formed party. He claimed that the newly formed party would move ahead in a parallel manner with the mother party. The announcement of the split from the UCPN-M and formation of the new outfit came at the end of the three-day national gathering of Baidya followers in Kathmandu on Monday.
