International support for Obama's foreign policy drops sharply: Survey

International approval for US President Barack Obama's foreign policy has fallen steeply, according to Pew Research survey. Among the 21 countries surveyed, the sharpest decline in support was seen in China where support for Obama fell from 57 percent to 27 percent, the survey revealed. According to the survey, most respondents in almost all the 21 countries opposed US drone strikes. "I think where you see the real disappointment is when you deal with specific policies," The BBC quoted Richard Wike, associate director of the Pew Global Attitudes Project, as saying. However, despite the dip in international support, Obama's favorability remained strong among US allies, especially in Europe . According to Wike, confidence in Obama and approval of his international policies has gone down during his presidency, but has not dropped sharply in a single year. Among five European countries surveyed both in 2009 and 2012, approval of Obama's international policies dropped from 78 percent to 63 percent. The survey also showed a shift in the way economic power is perceived with majority of those surveyed in Germany , Britain , France and Spain now regarding China as the leading economic power. Wike said: "The US had seen a downward trend in its perceived economic power since the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent recession, despite Obama receiving "reasonably good marks on global economic issues".
