Naxal sympathizers are questioning killing of Francis Indwar by the Maoists and ask whether beheading of the unarmed Inspector of the Special Branch of Jharkhand Police is in tune with the revolutionary aims of the Naxalism. The Maoists kidnapped and killed Indwar not in a brave fight, but in an act contrary to the revolutionary path. Following the kidnapping on September 30 and fearing the killing, Indwar's wife made an appeal to the Maoists to release her husband - the only bread-earner of the family. Turning a deaf ear to the appeal, the cruelty of the Maoists defied the claim of the outfit to champion the cause of women and the helpless. The body of cruelly killed Inspector was found in Bundu Police Station area of adjoining Ranchi district today. The Maoists demanded release of their arrested leaders, including Kobad Ghandy, a politburo member recently arrested in Delhi. The ultras also demanded the release of Chhatradhar Mahato, leader of Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities, who has been denying his links with Maoists especially after his arrest. Naxal sympathizer here find the case of kidnapping to secure release of Ghandy whom Maoists and pro-Maoists intellectuals claim to be a thinker, quite intriguing. Many accepted Ghandy as an ideologue planning the political roadmap of the Maoists. The action of his associates in killing innocent citizens, accusing them of being police informers sometimes because they did not respond to extortion demands have given rise to disillusionment. Even human rights activists who have been critical of arrest of Ghandy and Mahato have not so far reacted to the killing of Indwar.
