Dimple Yadav elected unopposed to Lok Sabha from Kannauj | Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav has been elected unopposed to the Lok Sabha from the Kannauj parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh that was slated to go to the polls on June 24. It has been a poll walkover for Dimple, as mainstream political parties did not field any candidate against her. The two independent candidates, who were to contest for the Kannauj seat, have now withdrawn their nominations. Dimple, 35, who filed her nomination papers on June 5, will be declared the winner from this constituency tomorrow. Dimple had earlier this week said
that being the chief minister's wife, it would be a golden opportunity for her
to work for Kannauj. "I think being the wife of the chief minister, I have the
best opportunity to work for the welfare of the people and to work for the development
of my constituency," she said. Dimple had contested the 2009 Firozabad by-election,
but lost to Congress candidate Raj Babbar. The Kannauj parliamentary constituency
fell vacant after Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha on being sworn in
as a member of the UP Legislative Council and after becoming the State's chief
minister. Akhilesh Yadav has represented the Kannauj seat thrice. |
