Planning Commission’s toilet controversy refuses to be 'flushed' out

Planning Commission’s toilet confessions are refusing to be flushed away, with activists from various quarters coming out with strong reactions to the Commission’s confession of having spent a whopping Rs 35 lakh on renovation of two toilets in its office. Right to Information (RTI) activist, Subhash Chandra Aggarwal, on whose application the revelation came about, said, “This is a big joke with this nation and we are not able to provide proper sanitation for general public. Ladies are very much embarrassed and harassed when they are outside their homes because no toilets for ladies are there on the roads and streets and we are spending so heavily on this wasteful expenditure. This is bad." The Planning Commission has come out with a press release to clear the air, calling the media reports “unfortunate” and maintaining the toilets were “public toilet blocks.” "It is unfortunate that what is routine maintenance and upgradation is being projected as wasteful expenditure... The impression is being created that this has been spent on two toilets. That is totally false because these can be used by 10 people simultaneously," said the press release.
