Amir Khan promises 'explosive' performance against Danny Garcia following press conference row | Former IBF Light Welterweight Champion Amir
Khan has claimed to be determined to prove critics wrong when he takes on American boxer Danny Garcia for the WBC light welterweight world title on July 14 in Las Vegas. Khan lost his last bout to Lamont Peterson in controversial circumstances,
then a scheduled rematch was scrapped after Peterson failed a drugs test. Khan
is battling to have that result changed to a no-contest, a result that could see
the WBA and IBF titles return to Khan, but rather than sitting on his laurels,
the Bolton-based fighter has moved on to a new opponent, Garcia. "We are going
to see an explosive Amir Khan in there," the Daily Mirror quoted Khan, as saying.
"We are going to see Danny Garcia, who is an unbeaten fighter with a WBC title.
But I don't think he has seen anyone like Amir Khan. Someone explosive, someone
strong, someone powerful. And it is going to be a fight that is going to show
the all the critics and also it's going to be a big win for me," he added. Khan,
who became embroiled in a press-conference row with Garcia's father and trainer,
said Garcia wouldn't be able to handle a fighter of his class. "The strategy is
all about being really smart and sticking to the game plan from Freddy Roach,"
Khan said.
