Pak Chief Justice's son dismisses financial impropriety allegations as 'baseless' | Arsalan Chaudhry, the son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that financial
impropriety allegations leveled against him are baseless. Chief Justice Chaudhary
had taken suo motu notice of reports of financial corruption against his own son,
and summoned the attorney general of Pakistan , Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz
and his son, Arsalan, to appear before the apex court today. Justice Iftikhar
Muhammad Chaudhry took notice of rumours that had begun to appear in the media
that his son had received Rs 300 to Rs 400 million and had undertaken lavish foreign
tours to formalise questionable 'business deals'. According to The Express Tribune,
some reports allege that Arsalan had taken the money and promised the business
tycoon that all corruption cases against him would disappear. A personal staff
officer informed the court that Riaz was in the UK , where he was undergoing treatment.
The chief justice inquired whether Riaz had received the court's summons, to which
the officer replied that he had "not been able to get in touch with Malik Riaz"
as yet. Upon the court's enquiry as to who took care of business affairs in Riaz's
absence, the officer mentioned eight names, including that of Riaz's son Ahmed
Ali Riaz. "Commander Illyas, Wing Commander Ayaz, General Ehtisham Zameer, Shaukat
Sultan, Maryam Rehman, Brigadier Ahad and Riaz's son, Ahmed Ali Riaz take care
of business affairs in his absence," said the personal officer. Speaking to the
media outside the courtroom, Arsalan's counsel said the court had taken no decision
as yet but had adjourned the hearing till June 8.
