US Senator introduces legislation seeking to cut Pak aid unless Dr Afridi is released | A United States Senator has introduced a legislation that demands that American
aid to Pakistan be cut off unless Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped in CIA locate Osama
bin Laden, is released. The legislation, introduced by Senator Rand Paul, has
two bills attached to it. The first demanded that Pakistan overturn Dr Afridi's
33-year prison sentence and allow him to leave the country. The second asks the
U.S. government to grant Dr Afridi American citizenship for his efforts, the Express
Tribune reports. The legislation clearly demands that all charges against Dr Afridi
must be dropped and he should be allowed to leave Pakistan . According to the
paper, earlier when Senator Paul proposed the bill, he had said, that 'they accuse
Dr Afridi of working against Pakistan , but he was simply helping the U.S. capture
the head of al Qaeda.' "Surely Pakistan is not linking their interests with those
of an international terrorist organization," he had said earlier.
