China, Kazakhstan vow to enhance strategic partnership | Chinese President Hu Jintao and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on Wednesday vowed to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations as
they held talks in Beijing . "Boosting neighborly friendship and comprehensive
strategic cooperation between China and Kazakhstan is in the fundamental interests
of the two nations and has won the most extensive support by the people of the
two nations," Hu said during the talks. The Chinese president said that China
attaches importance to developing the comprehensive strategic partnership with
Kazakhstan . Hu suggested that the two nations should strengthen their mutual
trust with more bilateral interactions and political dialogues, strategically
expand consensus and support each other on major issues of common concern in order
to safeguard their strategic security situation and development. Economically,
Hu said the two sides should deepen energy cooperation and initiate cooperation
in new areas, including nuclear energy, solar energy and wind energy, at early
dates. China and Kazakhstan should also expand their mutual investment and step
up sub-national cooperation, Hu added. During their talks, Hu said the two nations
should make more joint efforts to fight the "three evil forces" of terrorism,
separatism and extremism and combat drug trafficking and other cross-border organized
crime more effectively. Moreover, Hu suggested the two nations boost cultural
and people-to-people exchanges and strengthen their coordination in international
affairs. Echoing Hu's suggestions on bilateral cooperation, Nazarbayev said the
Kazakh side is satisfied with the bilateral economic cooperation, and will continue
to carry out petroleum and gas projects and explore new key areas of cooperation
in agriculture, technology and bio-medicine, among other areas. The Kazakh president
said Kazakhstan welcomes Chinese investment in the Central Asian country's transport
infrastructure, and hopes that the pace of the trans-border railway and highway
projects between the two countries will be quickened. The Kazakh side will continue
its firm support of China 's efforts to fight the "three evil forces," Nazarbayev
said. Kazakhstan and China share the same or similar stances on major international
and regional issues, said the Kazakh president, adding that his government is
willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly safeguard
regional peace, stability and development. Nazarbayev arrived in Beijing on Tuesday
afternoon to visit China and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)
summit in Beijing . During his visit, which he is making as a guest of President
Hu, Nazarbayev will attend the 12th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member
States of the SCO in Beijing from Wednesday to Thursday.
