Indian cabbie to be extradited to Australia over rape charges | An Indian taxi driver who fled to his home country after being accused of raping a Melbourne woman over
two years ago will be extradited to Australia , according to a report. Jaswinder
Singh Mutta, who surrendered to Indian police in January, told a court last week
that he would return to Australia voluntarily to face the charges. Mutta was accused
of raping a 26-year-old woman late at night in North Fitzroy on January 17 2010.
The woman was a passenger in a taxi being driven by Mutta, who was 23 at the time,
The Age reports. The extradition was ordered at the request of the Australian
High Commission in New Delhi, which sent a letter about the case to the Indian
foreign ministry in August last year, the report said.
