Kirti Azad downplays Jethmalani's strongly worded letter to Gadkari | Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Kirti Azad on Sunday played
down a letter written by eminent lawyer and MP Ram Jethmalani to party president
Nitin Gadkari alleging that the leaders are 'silent against the huge corruption'
in UPA-II Government, and are instead, engaged in infighting, saying the party
is performing well and looking forward to the 2014 polls. Terming the letter written
to Gadkari to be Jethmalani's personal opinion, Azad said: "That's his personal
opinion, and what he has said I have no personal remarks to make to that. I can
simply say BJP is really doing well and we are looking forward to the 2014 elections."
"I don't think so, but one has to be very careful. I mean if a letter has been
written confidentially, then it should stay confidential. It shouldn't be given
to the public," he added, when asked whether these kinds of personal remarks were
harming the BJP at large. The Rajya Sabha MP has in his letter dated May 23 cautioned
the BJP, saying this would lead people to believe that BJP has something to hide
and hence has become an 'impotent spectator' to the loot of our finances. "Our
party leaders should be going round the country and proclaiming the stark truth.
Our party workers must be holding demonstrations in every city and hamlet, in
fact every nook and corner of the country. The nation wants feverish action,"
Jethmalani said. Jethmalani reportedly ended his letter seeking an apology for
his 'anger' and its 'uninhabited expression', but strikes a positive note, saying
there is 'some flicker of hope still left'.
