Ramdev takes on PM, says UPA not performing its constitutional responsibility

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for his inability to crack down rampant corruption, and alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government is not performing its constitutional responsibility. "If 200 lakh crore scams take place under any Prime Minster's Government then how can you expect that Prime Minister to be honest. The government is involved in all the scams, they sold the country, some of the people within the country are looting the nation and some international firms including MNCs are looting the country," said Ramdev, while highlighting the irresponsibility on part of the Central Government paving way for the international and national firms to loot the country. "We are awakening the people of the country to come forward and fight for their nation as the government is not performing its constitutional responsibility," he added. Ramdev disclosed that he would resume his campaign on June 3 against the scams looting the country. "We will start our campaign on 3rd June and should get all the black money back to the country. We want the government to work towards result-oriented approach. The government which presented the white paper is fraud and they tried to befool people relating to the amount of black money, its use, its procedure to get back the money," he added. Ramdev also criticized the government's move to hike petrol price. He said that amid slowing economic growth and high inflation, the steep hike in fuel price would be another survival test for the common man. "In the history of independent India , the price of petrol has never increased all of a sudden. Increase in the prices of petrol by 7.50 rupees will lead to hike in the transportation and manufacturing costs and inflation will increase by 20 percent," said Ramdev. "80 crores people are already poor as they have to sustain their livelihood at a minimal amount of rupees 20 per day and if the inflation increases by 20 percent how will a common man survive?" he asked. In the steepest ever increase, the UPA-II Government on Wednesday raised petrol prices by about a massive Rs 7.54 per litre, the first hike in rates in six months. The hike in prices means that the price of petrol in Delhi will go up from Rs.65.64 per litre to Rs.73.14 per litre. In Mumbai, the price will go from Rs.70.66 per litre to Rs.78.16 per litre. In Kolkata, the price will go from Rs.70.03 per litre to Rs.77.53 per litre In Chennai, the price will go from Rs.69.55 per litre to Rs.77.05 per litre. State-owned oil companies have decided to raise petrol price by Rs 6.28 per litre excluding local sales tax or VAT. The hike translates into Rs 7.50 per litre in Delhi and is the steepest ever. The decision to hike petrol prices came a day after the end of the Budget Session of Parliament.
