Blind dissident Chen describes house arrest sufferings in China as 'beyond imagination' | Blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng has described his suffering during 20
months of house
arrest in China as 'beyond imagination'. During his first interview after his
arrival in the United States , Chen said that the Chinese Government's persecution
of his relatives and supporters had increased since he left the country. "I'm
very worried. We can see their retribution against my family since my escape has
continued and been intensified," The telegraph quoted Chen as saying. Chen had
escaped from house arrest and sought asylum in the US Embassy in Beijing , which
led to a diplomatic row between the US and China . Chen's older brother, Chen
Gangfu, was reportedly tortured after he escaped house arrest. Gangfu has also
reportedly fled his village, dodging a series of guards to reach Beijing . Chen's
nephew, Chen Kegui, has been charged with attempted murder after he drew a knife
against security officials who raided his home. Chen claimed that Kegui had suffered
severe head injuries and been repeatedly beaten during his arrest. Chen also praised
the small band of supporters who helped him escape from his village.
