Gadkari's aide Sanjay Joshi resigns ahead of National Executive meeting |
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sanjay Joshi, considered to be close to party president Nitin Gadkari, has resigned ahead of the party's National Executive meeting beginning in Mumbai today. According to media reports, Joshi, a strong critic of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has in a letter to Gadkari said
that he is relinquishing his post in the larger interest of the party. This move
is being viewed as an attempt on the part of the BJP to buy peace with Modi, who
did not attend the last meeting of the National Executive held in Delhi in December.
Modi was reportedly upset over Joshi's induction in the BJP, and had not even
campaigned for the party in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. Joshi, an old RSS
hand, was also given the important charge of handling the poll campaign in Uttar
Pradesh.
