Indian Army orders probe into Siachen Glacier chopper crash |
The Indian Army has ordered an inquiry into the Cheetah chopper crash that took place in the Siachen Glacier area of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. “Today, at
around 11.45 there were two army aviation Cheetah choppers, which were returning
from a routine maintenance flight from the Bhim Post. The Bhim Post is approximately
at the height of 6,000 meters and it is located in the northern part of the Siachen
Glacier,” said Indian Army spokesperson Colonel Jagdeep Dahiya “On the returning
journey, one chopper crashed a short distance from the helipad and there has been
unfortunate casualty of one pilot. It was piloted by two Majors and the second
Major was critically injured, and he has been evacuated,” he added. Colonel Dahiya
further said that it would not be appropriate for him to comment on the matter
as of now. “At this point of time, it is too early to state what could be the
reasons. There is a normal process of inquiry, which goes on and in that, it could
be either the weather has played a part in it, or it could be technical reasons,
or it could be human error. All this will be get substantiated only after we get
the complete investigation,” said Colonel Dahiya. “That’s a normal process after
every chopper crash. A code of inquiry is ordered and proper investigation is
done,” he added.
