14 killed as Hampi Express hits stationary train in Andhra Pradesh

     At least fourteen persons were killed and 30 others injured on Tuesday when the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express overshot a signal and collided with a stationary goods train at Andhra Pradesh's Penneconda station. The collision occurred around 3:15 a.m. The Hampi Express, travelling from Hubli to Bangalore , rammed a stationary goods train near Penukonda station in Anantapur district. As a result of the collision, two coaches of the Hampi Express derailed and caught fire. Though the fire has been brought under control, efforts are still on to save those trapped inside the damaged coaches. The death toll is likely to rise further as many passengers are still feared trapped inside the damaged coaches. Railway Minister Mukul Roy rushed to the site of the accident and ordered an inquiry into it. Roy also announced a compensation of Rs.5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs.1 lakh for those who sustained grievous injuries and Rs.50,000 to those who received minor injuries. Meanwhile, railways have set up helplines at Bangalore City , Bellary , Hospet and Hubli.
