BCCI should come under RTI’s ambit, says Ajay Maken | Sports Minister Ajay Maken on Monday underscored the need to bring
the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under the ambit of the Right
to Information (RTI) Act. Addressing the parliament, Maken expressed Centre’s
keenness to bring thr BCCI under the purview of RTI. "I want to inform the members
of the House that we believe the BCCI must come under the ambit of the Right to
Information Act. To this end, the Sports Ministry has placed this suggestion before
the Chief Information Commissioner and this hearing is in process in the Central
Information Commission," he said. The proposal comes in the wake of controversies
and graft allegations surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL), the most recent
one being the arrest of two IPL players caught attending an alleged rave party
in Mumbai.
