Pak to seek 1bn dollars compensation from NATO for 'damages caused by war on terror' | Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari will reportedly demand 1 billion dollars from NATO as compensation for the war on terror and its dire consequences
on the country's economy. Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said Zardari
would put forward the demand at the NATO summit in Chicago , reports the Daily
Times. The payment through NATO's Coalition Support Fund (CSF) is Pakistan 's
right, he said. "We are with the international community in the fight against
this menace (terrorism) but it cannot be won by military means only. Poverty and
unemployment are two big reasons of extremism," Babar said. He said the country's
economy has been paying the price for being an ally in the war against terror.
" Pakistan is fighting the war in coalition with the international community.
This war could be won not just through weapons," he said, adding that eliminating
poverty and provision of employment are indispensable for elimination of terrorism.
U.S. President Barack Obama is hosting a two-day NATO summit in Chicago that will
focus on plans to hand over security to Afghan forces and withdrawal of foreign
troops by 2014. Zardari is accompanied by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and
Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbass Jilani.
