Shah Rukh Khan banned from Wankhede for five years |
Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) President Vilasrao Deshmukh on Friday
announced that
Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has been banned from entering the
Wankhede Stadium for five years following his scuffle with MCA officials on Wednesday
night. "MCA is forced to ban Shah Rukh Khan from entering Wankhede Stadium for
five years. The rules apply to all, no one is above them," Deshmukh told media
here. "Our decision to ban Shah Rukh Khan was unanimous. There was a proposal
of lifetime ban, but we want to send a message that this is not how one should
behave. We have informed BCCI about the ban, but since this property belongs to
MCA, we have decided on the ban," he added. He said over 50 percent MCA officials
were present at the time of brawl so there was no point in forming an interim
committee to look into the incident. Replying to allegations by the actor that
his daughter was manhandled by MCA officials, Deshmukh said: "We have not received
any complaint from him yet. He is unapologetic and justified his actions." Khan
had earlier said that he was provoked after security guards touched a group of
children he was accompanying, which included his daughter. "I was being bullied.
They were very aggressive. I got very angry when they pushed little girls. Manhandling
kids is not pardonable. Their behavior was completely rude. I will not deny the
fact that I was not abusive," he added. Khan further said both he and his team
follow a sportsmanship spirit He also rubbished reports that he was drunk after
the match that took place between his team the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai
Indians. "I was very angry, but I was not drunk. They should apologise to me.
They were abusive. They shouldn't have spoken to me like that. They manhandled
children in the name of security. What are the kids going to do? They should know
how to behave with the children," said Khan. The scuffle happened on Wednesday
night when the actor and his entourage were stopped from going on to the ground
after the match, which the Kolkata Knight Riders won.
