Maoist shutdown against 'Operation Green Hunt' hits normal life in Jharkhand | The 24-hour shutdown call by Maoists against the Central Government's para-military
'Operation Green Hunt' paralysed normal life and disrupted transport services
here on Wednesday. The regional manager of Bihar state road transport authority,
Ashok Kumar Singh, said the nationwide shutdown is affecting locals and daily
wage labourers. "The Maoist called for a shutdown against 'Operation Green Hunt',
which has been launched in the country and we are facing lot of problem due to
this. Our income is getting affected because of the shutdown," he said. Commuters
faced the brunt of the shutdown in Jharkhand's Ranchi district, as the public
transport was put on a halt. Irked bus drivers complained that because of the
shutdown, they were not able to earn money and it is difficult for them to run
their families. "It is getting difficult for us to earn a living and these shutdowns
should not be called frequently," said Suraj, a bus driver. Normal life also came
to a standstill in West Bengal 's Jhargram region. "Shutdowns have always been
a part of Jangalmahal, but it has never benefited the people. The means of transportation
has been badly affected. In Jhargham, there are shutdowns now and then but these
are useless. We totally resent the shutdown," said Manoj Das, a local.
