CBI raids Yeddyurappa’s residences in Karnataka

A day after filing a First Information Report (FIR) against former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on charges of illegal mining, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths raided his various residences in Bengaluru and other places in Karnataka. A nine-member team led by CBI Inspector General of CBI Lakshminarayana commenced the raids at 6:15am. Yeddyurappa's residences in Dollars Colony and Race Course Road in Bengaluru and a firm owned by one of his sons were among the establishments raided. A joint CBI team from Bengaluru and Hyderabad also raided the residences of Yeddyurappa's sons B Y Raghavendra, B Y Vijayendra and his son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar in Bengaluru and in their native district of Shimoga, police sources said. The CBI registered a case against Yeddyurappa in compliance with the Supreme Court directives. The apex court, on May 11, had ordered a CBI probe against the popular Lingayat leader into alleged charges of showing undue favours to firms involved in illegal mining in lieu of donations to a charitable trust run by his kin when he was the chief minister. Yeddyurappa was forced to quit last year after a Lokayukta report indicted him in connection with the case related to illegal mining and alleged irregularities in land denotification.
