Paswan takes on RSS, BJP over Ambedkar cartoon row | Amid the ongoing row over the publication of a derogatory cartoon of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in NCERT textbooks,
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday said this reflected
a particular mindset. He suggested that some people having links with the right-wing
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could be
behind it. "This tells us about a particular mindset. How does such a thing appear
in an NCERT book? This means the people having links with the RSS and the BJP
are in the NCERT office. The NCERT should be dissolved," said Paswan. He asked
Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal to withdraw the cartoon from the NCERT books. "This is not at all acceptable. We have asked Sibalji that whoever has drawn such a cartoon, and whoever has given approval for it must be not only be suspended or dismissed, but a case should also be registered against them under the Prevention of Atrocities Act," he said. Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the whole matter should be investigated
and the guilty should be punished. "The whole matter should be investigated. This
is a serious issue that such a cartoon gets published in a book despite the government
knowing about it. The whole matter should be investigated and whoever is guilty
should be punished. This is a serious issue," said Naqvi. "Many people pass it
and after being passed if it is in the textbook and has become a part of the school
curriculum, then it is in fact a very serious issue," he added. Bahujan Samajwadi
Party (BSP) chief Mayawati described it an insult to democracy. "Dr Ambedkar is
a towering personality, who framed the Constitution of India and the Parliament
is running on it. This is an insult on Indian democracy. The government should
intervene and take strong action against those, who are involved in this," said
Mayawati. "If it failed to do so, we will wait for two to three days or else our
party will not allow the House to run," she added. The cartoon shows former Prime
Minister Jawaharlal Nehru whipping Dr BR Ambedkar who is seen sitting on a snail,
allegedly to speed up drafting the constitution.
