BJP condemns Ambedkar cartoon published in NCERT textbook | Accusing the ruling Congress party of making mistakes and then apologizing for it, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday condemned the cartoon of Dr BR Ambedkar being published in NCERT textbook, saying there is no forgiveness for some heinous crimes. "The government is doing mistakes for the last two days, and then apologizing for it. Now, the work of the government is to commit mistake in the morning and apologize for the same in the evening. Yesterday, the leader of the House was asking for apology, today Kapil Sibal is asking for it," said
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain. "He apologized, but there is no forgiveness
for some heinous crimes," he added. Hussain further said this is an old habit
of the Congress Party to disregard great men. "We are surprised over Baba Sahab
Ambedkar's cartoon being drawn and consequently being published in the NCERT book.
This is an old habit of the Congress Party to disrespect great men," said Hussain.
"Earlier also, unacceptable comments about the Gujjar community, Jat community,
Sikh community and the Jain community were published in NCERT textbooks, which
was removed by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government. The whole country is testimony
to this," he added. Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil
Sibal earlier today assured that Ambedkar cartoon will be removed from the NCERT
textbooks, and apologized to the nation. Sibal said there could be no question
of anybody trying to malign Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who is the architect of the Indian
Constitution. "And I want to say through you to the people of my country that
we have great respect for Baba Rao Ambedkarji, he is in a sense the chief architect
in the framing of the Indian Constitution. So, there can be no question of anybody
trying to malign him or anybody trying to make fun of him because that I think
will be against the secular ethos of our country. And if there is any such feeling,
I am personally willing to apologise for it," he said. The cartoon shows former
Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru whipping Dr BR Ambedkar who is seen sitting on
a snail, allegedly to speed up drafting the constitution.
