380 candidates to contest presidential elections in USA | After Republican Newt Gingrich backed out from the 2012 presidential campaign, there are now 380 candidates biding for the presidential race in the USA. According to The Washington Times, the statistics
was revealed by the Federal Election Commission. The Federal Election Commission
maintains the official tally of those who have filed a Statement of Candidacy,
aka "FEC Form 2", to register as a 2012 presidential candidate. The doting, meticulous
federal agency keeps all the names on file, whether they have received enough
contributions to qualify then as an actual candidate. The main list shows that
there are 135 Republicans, 71 independents, 35 Democrats and 4 Green Party candidates
who registered for the presidential race on January 27. Gingrich lasted almost
a year in the White House derby before money and support dwindled. He filed his
papers on May 13, 2011. |
