Blind dissident Chen tells Chinese authorities about abuses under house arrest | Blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng has given an account about abuses he had faced during house arrest
to Chinese authorities, a US official has said. "Chen had the opportunity to provide
detailed allegations to representatives of the Chinese Government who came to
interview him in his hospital room," News 24 quoted the US official saying on
condition of anonymity. The official said that Chen told them about "allegations
of abuse and extralegal activity" since he was freed from prison in 2010 and put
under house arrest. Chen Guangcheng had recently taken refuge in the US Embassy
in Beijing after his escape from house arrest. He had asked to leave China after
he emerged from the embassy, as he felt that he and his family would not be safe
in the country. US ambassador Gary Locke met Chen at the hospital, where he is
admitted for treatment of three fractures he sustained while escaping house arrest.
Chen had exposed forced abortions and sterilizations under China 's one-child-only
policy.
