Man who lived longest with bullet in head dies at 103 | The man, who held the Guinness World Record for living the longest with
a bullet in his head, died on Monday at Covenant Village in Turlock . He was 103.
William Lawlis Pace died in his sleep at a California nursing home, the Modesto
Bee newspaper reported. Born on Feb. 27, 1909, in Wheeler, Texas , Pace was just
8 years old when his brother, Marvin, accidentally shot him, with their father’s
.22 caliber rifle, in October 1917. Doctors left the bullet in place, fearing
he wouldn’t survive surgery to remove it. But, it didn’t stop him from playing
baseball and basketball as a boy. The injury damaged one of his eyes but did not
prevent Pace from working as a farmer and cemetery custodian. He went on to enjoy
a marriage that lasted 71 years and produced two sons. His final Guinness World
Record is at 94 years and six months. |
