BCB chief denies committing to Pak tour |
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Mustafa Kamal has denied that
he had committed to the country’s tour of Pakistan in return for the Pakistan
Cricket Board’s support of his candidature for vice-presidency in the International
Cricket Council (ICC). “No that is absolutely incorrect. I can’t get the vice-presidency
with Pakistan ’s support only. I need endorsements from at least 7 of 10 full
members of the ICC to acquire the important office,” Kamal was quoted as saying.
His statement came after a Bangladesh High Court issued a stay order on the country’s
tour to Pakistan that led to the postponement of the tour due to security reasons,
The Dawn reports. According to the petition filed in the Dhaka High Court, Kamal
had committed to the tour without the permission of the relevant authorities.
Kamal said both cricket boards are striving to achieve bilateral co-operation.
“PCB and BCB are striving hard for the betterment of cricket in the region, and
I hope the bilateral cooperation will continue,” he added. Bangladesh was scheduled
to play one One Day match and one Twenty20 matches in Lahore at the end of April.
However, the tour was postponed after Dhaka High Court issued a stay order due
to which the BCB postponed the trip.
