SP leader Azam Khan flays Imam Bukhari for seeking Parliament ticket for kin | Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Sunday took a dig at Muslim leader Syed Imam Bukhari after the latter sought a parliament ticket for his relative. Speaking to reporters in Rampur District on Sunday, Azam Khan said
that giving a ticket to Bukhari’s son-in-law was a wrong decision and the outcome
was before the party. “I had said earlier that good work couldn’t be done on a
wrong foundation, because the first decision was wrong. Giving a ticket to Bukhari’s
son-in-law was a wrong decision and these are the results for that,” said Khan.
Triggering a fierce political storm, Bukhari had demanded a seat in the Rajya
Sabha for his brother Yahya and a cabinet berth for his son-in-law Umer Ali in
the Uttar Pradesh Government. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had to eventually give
in to the demands of Bukhari saying that they would field a Muslim for the MLC
seat left vacant by the resignation of Mayawati. Azam Khan had earlier launched
a scathing attack on Bukhari by saying the demand put forth by the religious leader
undermined the aspirations and views of the Muslim community. According to media
reports, an Islamic seminary Darul-e-Mazhar Islam had issued a fatwa against Bukhari..
Earlier, prominent Islamic scholar and community leader Syed Kalbe Jawad had urged
Bukhari to work for the interests of the Muslim masses rather than focusing on
personal interests.
