Mahapatra fears threat to life from Mamata's men | Jadhavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahapatra, who has been arrested for allegedly circulating a ‘defamatory’ cartoon featuring West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Saturday said the that state government
was not tolerant towards such type of message. Mahapatra told newsmen that to some extent the people in Bengal have lost their freedom of expression. “To some extent, no doubt yes (people losing freedom of expression). Actually on that day on basis of a complaint I was arrested. In that way it is very clear that such type of message is not tolerable to our administration,” said Mahapatra.
Clarifying that he did not receive any threat calls till now, Mahapatra further
said he feels insecure that something might happen to him later on. “After Thursday
to till date I have not got any threat calls or other but I feel some insecurity
that may happen later. On that day the happening was very unexpected to me, I
didn’t know this will happen. I saw some furious passion on that day from the
body languages of those against me,” Mahapatra added. Mahapatra was arrested on
Thursday for allegedly circulating a ‘defamatory’ cartoon featuring West Bengal
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He was released later on bail today.
