Obama’s bodyguards in Columbia recalled following ‘misconduct | | US Secret Service agents, who were sent to Cartagena in Columbia, for providing security to President Obama who is attending a summit there since Friday, were called back after allegations of their misconduct surfaced, which
included involvement with prostitutes in Cartagena. “The Secret Service takes
all allegations of misconduct seriously. These personnel changes will not affect
the comprehensive security plan that has been prepared in advance of the President’s
trip,” the Washington Post quoted Edwin Donovan, an agency spokesman, as saying.
He reportedly declined to disclose details about the nature of the alleged misconduct.
But President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, Jon Adler,
claimed the accusations relate to at least one agent having involvement with prostitutes
in Cartagena . Obama arrived in Cartagena on Friday afternoon for the Summit of
the Americas , which is a gathering of 33 of the hemisphere’s 35 leaders to discuss
economic policy and trade issues. Adler revealed that the entire unit was recalled
for purposes of the investigation. He said that the Secret Service “responded
appropriately” and is “looking at a very serious allegation”, further adding that
the agency “needs to properly investigate and fairly ascertain the merits of the
allegations.”
