Probe ordered into Kaur's VIP treatment in jail | A detailed inquiry has been ordered into the
VIP treatment being provided to former Punjab Minister Bibi Jagir Kaur, currently lodged in Theh Kanjla Jail in Kapurthala in connection with the abduction case
of her daughter. Director General of Police (Prisons), Shashi Kant, today said
that a probe has been ordered to look into the allegations. "Based on various
allegations that have been coming up in the press and also in the electronic media,
this morning itself I had ordered a detailed inquiry, to be conducted by the IG
(Inspector General) prisons and all these allegations, which have been coming
up whether in the print media or electronic media, they will be looked into by
the inspector general of police, who is going to conduct inquiry," said Shashi
Kant. According to certain media reports, the jail authorities had permitted the
installation of a LED screen and satellite connection for Kaur in the prison.
Kaur was last week sent to jail after she was sentenced to five years imprisonment
by a CBI court for conspiring in forcible abortion and abduction in connection
with the mysterious death of her teenaged daughter Harpreet Kaur 12 years ago.
A special court on March 30 had convicted Bibi Jagir Kaur for conspiring in forcible
abduction, kidnapping and wrongful confinement in the killing of her daughter
Harpreet Kaur. Jagir Kaur was, however, acquitted from the charges of m urder
by the court in Patiala.
