Body-building championship for Gwalior's differently-abled | A body building championship held in Gwalior has become
a special event, as many differently-abled individuals participated in the championship.
Organised by Madhavrao Scindia Samriti at the city's Town Hall, the championship
was aimed at motivating physically challenged individuals to display their power
and confidence. "Our motive is to make these physically handicapped persons self
dependant. We also want to give them a platform so that they feel a part of society
and do not feel ignored. We wanted them to utilise this platform so that they
perform better in future body building competitions," said Shiv Veer Singh, coordinator,
Body Building Competition for Physically Disabled Persons. Around 100 physically
challenged participants from various parts of Madhya Pradesh displayed their health-oriented
physique and body-building skills. Each of them performed various postures to
inspirational musical tunes in the background. Some of the participants even danced
while staging their demonstration on stage. Monu Khan, one of the participants
said that he considered himself as a normal person and participated in the championships,
radiating utmost confidence. "I feel very good. Everybody gave us support and
encouraged us to take part in future events as well. I will surely train myself
harder. I do not consider myself handicapped and would want to take part in such
body building competitions in future," said Khan. The participants also wished
that the Government should provide them similar events for them to compete and
display their skills. The success of this contest at this level has prompted the
organisers to extend it to the state and national level. |
