Experts say Australia's Ashes hopes are in tatters | Cricket experts and fans say that the current Australia team can't reclaim the Ashes from England. The
harsh reality of England's comprehensive victory at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday (an innings and 71 run defeat) is becoming clear now. Cricket experts and fans
have all but written off Australia's chances of reclaiming the coveted urn. According
to Fox Sports, Ricky Ponting's men are now left in the unenviable position of
having to win at least two of the remaining three Tests to have a chance of gaining
a series victory. "I'm not sure we can get the right attack to bowl them out twice,"
said Herald Sun journalist Jon Anderson on foxsports.com.au's The Last Word. "It's
fair to assume that they (England) are red-hot favourites now with their batting
line-up," he added. A poll running on foxsports.com.au asked users if Australia
could even win a Test in this series. Over 55 per cent of the voters said Australia
would not taste a solitary victory in the Ashes series. Fox Sports cricket expert
and former Test cricketer Greg Blewett said: "We've just got to play better."
"All the players that are playing in the side are good players. We're just not
playing as a team at all, whereas England are a very consistent side at the moment.
We're not (consistent)," he added. |
