Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists attack Mirwaiz in New Delhi

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists on Tuesday attacked the All India Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq in New Delhi when he was entering Foreign Correspondent's club to attend a seminar. BJYM activists shouted slogans and hurled eggs, water bottles and few stones at Mirwaiz's SUV car, damaging the windscreen of the vehicle. The demonstrators shouted slogans like "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram" During the mayhem, nearly one company of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of around 120 personnel and Delhi Police officials escorted the Mirwaiz into the venue of the seminar. "We are here to protest the Mirwaiz's presence. He should not be allowed to participate in any programme as he furthers anti-India agenda," said Anil Sharma, a BJYM activist. While the activists were whisked away by CRPF personnel, they repeatedly said it was ironical that CRPF were trying to save a person who had been instrumental in tarnishing their image in the Kashmir Valley . This is the third attack on Hurriyat Conference chairman in last five days. On November 28, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers in Kolkata attacked Mirwaiz. Mirwaiz, was coming out of an auditorium after attending a seminar on 'Kashmir- A Way Out' organised by the Centre for Peace and Progress. On November 25, the Mirwaiz was beaten up by activists of the Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Kashmiri Pandits for his anti-Indian comments. Speaking at a human rights seminar in Chandigarh , the Mirwaiz had declaimed some pro-freedom slogans which provoked the audience.
